Beautiful Tiny Island and Candat Sotong
* Hola backpackers! *
If you were to visit
Marang beach in night, you will realise there are so many lights on the sea. It
is a common scenery in night during squid jigging season. Squid jigging or
familiar as ‘candat sotong’ among the villagers is a traditional way to catch
the squid. Terengganu people is actually have many traditional ways to catch
the squid instead of using modern machine. But then of all the methods used,
the most popular and interesting one is ‘candat sotong’. Known specifically for
squid fishing, guests can while away the time pulling in squids using nylon
lines in lighted boats at night.

Kapas Island

Every year before monsoon season, there
will be a squid jigging competition which usually held in Kapas and Gemia
Island, a beautiful little island. Many fishermen, villagers or even the
tourists will join this activity. This two little islands take about 10 minutes
to reach by speedboat and only 6km from Marang jetty.
